Minutes from the 2007 Business Meeting
Monday, July 30, 1:30-3pm...Roundtable on Shared and Focused Research Initiatives for Institutional and Behavioral Economics (Organized Symposium). You recently received notice of this from Chair-Elect Randy Westgren. This semi-structured roundtable should be a very dynamic and engaging forum as those present propose and discuss opportunities for collaborative research and for research foci. (Note: To help in framing the behavioral economics conversation during this Roundtable, see the recently published, excellent overview of the field by John Tomer, one of the original founders of the Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics, which this year celebrated its 25th anniversary, and currently the Executive Director of SABE, available at: http://metaeconomics.unl.edu/tomer(2007)whatisbehavioraleconomics.pdf Also, there is a "streaming" PowerPoint review of the paper at: http://metaeconomics.unl.edu/tomer(2007)whatisbehavioraleconomics.html ).
Monday, July 30, 10:30-noon...Economic Theory of Entrepreneurship (Organized Symposium). Organized by Randy Westgren and featuring Joseph Mahoney (University of Illinois) and Peter Klein (University of Missour).
Tuesday, July 31, 1:30-3pm...Collaborating in a Multidisciplinary Environment (Organized Symposium co-sponsored with the Food Safety and Nutrition Section of ARER). Organized by Sandra Hoffman, Resources for the Future.
In addition, there will be a couple of Selected Paper sessions. See the original proposal for more details at IBES Sessions. Randy Westgren, our incoming IBES Chair, has put together an excellent program! The Roundtable he has organized for Monday will be especially important to the future of IBES: This will be an opportunity to evolve some "creative imaginings" (after Bromley, 2006, in thinking about the future of our interactions, relationships in this IBES "institution") about our role in AAEA, and the general direction we might take as a Section.
2006 Long Beach Meeting, July 23-26, "Envisioning the Future"
The IBES Track can be found by searching for "Behavioral" and "IBES" in the AAEA Program. See pictures of several presenters and participants at the 2006 meeting.
The annual Business Meeting was held on July 23, 2-4 p.m. Issues raised by Chair Stern to stir thinking about matters to be addressed at this meeting, and in keeping with the spirit of the overall theme for the AAEA meeting, included: What is the future of the institutional and behavioral economics (IBE) approach? What issues do we need to be addressing in the future? What can we do as a Section to make a better future? Where are the present and likely future frontiers in research, teaching and extension using the IBE approach? What other questions do we need to address in envisioning the future? The meeting was well attended, with lively discussion. See 2006 Meeting Agenda. Minutes will be posted soon.
IBES Track for 2005 included 4-organized symposia, 2 (plus 1-subject area)-selected paper sessions (for the first time, organized by the IBES Section, due to the IBES initiative asking for Sections to be enabled to organize their own selected paper sessions), and 1-free session.
The Business meeting was held on July 25 (See 2005 Minutes).
See the 2005 Report to the AAEA Board.
